id suggest that you upgrade your kernel to the latest version first then get the right nvidia driver again for the newer kernel

 

please read this howto for more info

 

also check that your monitor is correctly specified in redhat-config-xfree86

i get this occasionally when shutting down from X, kernel 2177 (iirc), latest nvidia driver. All the text goes corrupt, like vertical lines. It doesnt happen every time though
