Is it possible to access a shared area folder on windows XP from linux?

yes that possible, you need to go to smba and enable share as users, and choose which file should be share, like / for all.

 

then on windows, type: \\192.168.0.3

it will ask your for login, use the login as your linux login. then it will work. hope this help ya.
