The graphics problems you were having with the 915GM chipset can be resolved with the program 915resolution. You can find it at:

i've added that to the review,

 

i looked at your xorg.conf and i didnt see any reference to 1400x1050, does your laptop do that resolution ?

No, mine maxes out at 1280x800.
