Installing linux on windows xp

Now I'm using Windows XP on my laptop, I want to install suse linux for the first time. Is possible that all the files in C drives are not been harm by installing linux through booting?

yup its possible,

 

create a new blank partition first with some tool like partition magic., and install linux on THAT blank partition

 

let GRUB (the linux boot loader) handle dual-boot
