Dynamic DNS with static IP

Hi All,

I have a Linux machine having static IP configuration ( without DHCP). And if this configuration is changed, should this information be updated in the DNS server?

 

In short, does Dynamic DNS make sense with static IP configuration?

 

Any comment in this regard is highly appreciated.

are you referring to dynamic dns in terms of using a service like dyndns.org ?

 

if so, then no, its not required if your INTERNET ip (find out what it is here > [/url][url=http://www.whatismyip.com]http://www.whatismyip.com ) is STATIC.

if your INTERNET (WAN) ip changes, then dynamic dns is a good thing,

 

if you are confusing LAN ip with WAN then please give us more details of your setup.

Thanks for the reply. My setup details are as below:

 

There is Linux machine , DHCP server and DDNS server on a network.

Currently , if the machine has achieved the IP Address from the DHCP server, its information is also updated in the DDNS server.

 

My question was:

If DHCP is disabled on the above machine, and IP Address is statically configured, should this information be updated in the DDNS server?

you can access static ip assigned system by directly calling with its ip address but if you want to resolve your system name using ddns server then you need to update ddns server once later no need to update.
