you have to run it from the command line (terminal), you are just double clicking on it and it's opening in gedit (a document editor)

so what is the filename that you downloaded ?

you need to

Code:
sudo -i

then

Code:
sh ./thenameofthefile.run

make sure all your software is up to date then

to do that do as follows:-

Code:
sudo -i

then

Code:
aptitude-get update && aptitude-get upgrade

once done, you may need to reboot (if there was a kernel update) and if you did get a kernel update then you'll need to re-install the nvidia driver,

IT only happens when my window manager is set to beryl. If it is set to Metacity its fine. When I try to do the update I get this any way.

root@don-desktop:~# aptitude-get update && aptitude-get upgrade

-bash: aptitude-get: command not found

root@don-desktop:~# aptitude-get update & aptitude-get upgrade

[1] 6542

-bash: aptitude-get: command not found

-bash: aptitude-get: command not found

[1]+ Exit 127 aptitude-get update

root@don-desktop:~#

Now Im just trying to figure out how to get wow to work. Im using the Digital Ninjas guild but having a little prob.

Hi I am Susi. I have been working with computers since 1975, probably longer than most of you have been around. I started out writing programs but that all was a long time ago. Now my son wants me to learn Linux. Well, he helped or should I say started me on a website. No canned programs, just raw code. I am having a hard time with it. I started to do an update today and now I can not get back into my website. http://thewesternwhites.selfip.com

Yes linux is hard. Some of the commands are similar to old DOS commands but changed to protect or confuse us :)

I get a Fedora screen telling me it is under construction or something like that. anyone got any ideas? Or do I need to call my son again. He does not live close by. Susi

I have noticed that this thread is quite olde, but I have found the answer to the question, "Linux equivalents to DOS commands."
