Building a new PC ; Is there a way to have linux as my ONLY OS

I was wondering, would it be possible to burn ubuntu, or any other linux OS onto a disc and treat it like a windows install and boot from disc, or would I have to do something completely different?

Sorry for the late reply, the forum has been quite inactive lately. You probably found your answer already but just for the sake incase someone might run into here. You could do that, download the iso burn it, boot from cd and then install. Or you could download the iso and create a bootble usb drive and install from there.
