How do I configure my computer to turn off completely?
What file contains that configuration?
Right now, with the shut down, my computer terminates all the processes but the screen just stops at the "Sytem halted" message. I have to press the power button to turn it completely off. I do not want to have to turn the button off every time.

How old is this computer?
Some older machines don't have a technology called ACPI which allows the operating system software to actually switch off the power in this way. If your machine is too old, this might be the issue and the only way I know of is to switch it off manually after the system halted message.

The computer is only three years old.
How do I configure / know if my computer has ACPI technology?
I hope this is significant: this was never a problem until after I upgraded from Fedora 7 to 8. Before the upgrade, the computer would switch the power off completely on shut down.
