I have just downloaded the above, burn it to disk, created a floppy boot disk for the cdrom, and then press ok, from then it says 'Could not open compressed ramdisk file (/sysroot/tmp/image/install/stage2/mdkinst_stage2.bz2).' i dont understand why or how to bypass or fix? i would appreciate any help

can you please post links to exactly WHAT you downloaded and why are you creating a boot disc for the cdrom ? mandrake can boot on cd1 just check your bios can support booting from a cdrom cheers anyweb

check the bios settings for your compaq (in the boot order screen) you must have CD before HD in order to boot from a bootable cd cheers anyweb

Also, when burning ISO images, don't forget to burn TAO, not DAO. This is the default used by cdrecord, but most GUI CD burners use DAO, IIRC.
