Setting Up BCM4318 Wireless, Please Help!

I have posted for help on the Fedora support forums, but nobody was able to give me an answer to my specific problem. I am about ready to lose it! I've been trying so desperately to get on the internet but it seems that my chipset was created in hell :( So I hope that somebody here will be able to save me with some nice step by step (or not even) replies, since I am a huge noob.

 

I installed FC6 almost a week ago on my Dell Inspiron 600m notebook and everything works just fine except for I cannot get my wireless internet to work. 

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX (rev02)

02:03.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev02)

 

Under Network Configuration, eth0 and eth1 are both listed as inactive and when I try to activate them, it says "failed; no link present. Check Cable?"

 

I've searched around a lot for a solution, but I found most answers to be too confusing.. and I'm also not too sure if I have to do anything special for the ethernet controller to work?

 

Just in case, are there any wireless cards that I can buy affordably that work with FC6 without any configuration? I would just like to easily connect even if it'll cost me some.

I managed to find a reasonably step-by-step tutorial:

It's designed specifically for Fedora, so if you follow the steps it should hopefully work. Just open the Terminal program and type:

 

Code:

su -

 

and press Enter and type your password in. (this is the step they mention in the guide as 'becoming root')

 

After that, follow the guide and let us know how you get on.

 

Unfortunately, it's difficult for me to actually do it myself and walk you through as I don't have said wireless card! :)

Unfortunately, my laptop is still offline so I can't do the yum installs :/ The link to the driver download wasn't working either, but I managed to find another one ..and then there was an error with the kernel when I tried to install ndiswrapper. So I think I'm going to give it one last shot and try with Ubuntu, hopefully there are no bugs! Thank you for your help! :)

Just an update.. I installed Ubuntu and my wireless card is now working! Finally! :)

Yeah, it's Feisty Fawn. I had to do a little bit of work, but for some reason it seemed a lot more complicated on Fedora haha
