desktop integration for openoffice - nishith - 2008-04-09

I am using fedora 8 on a acer laptop.

I have installed openoffice from a rpm file.

I also got a rpm for desktop integration.

Everything installed without any complaining.....but I can't see any links for the openoffice on the applications menu.

I can start impress, writer etc from /opt/openoffice-2.0/programs dir but not otherwise.

Can I get the desktop integration done !

thanks in advance

nishith

Yeah I think yum would have been better.

Any way I am using GNOME and the rpm downloaded and used was inside OOo_2.4.0-LinuxIntel_install_wjRE_en-US.tar.gz.

The tar file was unziped and then I used rpm -ivh *.rpm.

It reported all was fine

thanks in advance

Well since its an /opt install .. you could just remove it and go back to yum?

Other than that you will need to make yourself some Icons and then put them manually into your menus.

okay the issue got resolved on successive reboots on it's own.

Probably one needs to reboot after the instln of desktop integration rpm completes ?!?!?

Leaving this around for novices like self

Um no, that is extremely odd. Unless it was updating the kernel there is no need for major reboots. It's really good that its fixed.

Hello,

It was more likely you needed to reboot your X server, you could of just hit Ctrl + Alt + Backspace

yeah you are right

I think it needed a x server restart and ctrl+alt+backspace could have solved the problem.

Thanks a lot
