quite a few distros are becoming gnome-centric, not a bad thing really, gnome still has the rounded edges that makes it good for noobs..

Yeah, this thread has prompted me to use GNOME for the past few days, and yes, it is very good. :)The GNOME Control Centre is a lot cleaner than the KDE one (much more noob-friendly), and most of the features I like about KDE are there or can be put in manually. I did have to set Klipper to run at startup, because doing PHP/MySQL development I tend to put lots of stuff on the clipboard :P .
SUSE's default GNOME installation doesn't look very pretty to begin with, that's why I didn't use it. A quick trip to [/url]http://gnome-look.org and [url=http://art.gnome.org]http://art.gnome.org made it look more 'polished'. It's nice to have eye-candy on your desktop. :)

The latest out of Provo says that they'll continue to support both desktops. Apparently the dustup was sufficient to make them reevaluate the Gnome-only move.

Whew. That's a relief. I'm still so green at Linux, but I'm a big fan of KDE, even though it boots slower and such. I like the cartoony feel of it, plus my trackpad is a little more responsive under KDE.
