snmp slackware 10.2 - A.R.Winters - 2005-12-02 Hello people, I have some problems with met net-snmp program the version i use is 5.2.1.2. The following accors, i made a snmpd.conf and put it in de right directory, example : /usr/share/snmp/snmpd.conf if i start snmpd on the following #snmpd /usr/share/snmpd.conf then i get nothing strange in the snmpd.log but when i go back to the directory where snmpd.conf is then the file is renamed as a socket file into snmpd.conf= but the daemon is running. so if i start a snmpwalk on the following maner: root@slacky:/# snmpwalk -v 1 -c public localhost Timeout: No Response from localhost I also turned a snmp daemon on in my thomson speedtouch 510 modem, and this works perfect if i put the same command as above and change localhost into the ip of my modem then i`ll get the information that i want and put it with a crontab into mrtg, and this works fine. So what i want to know is: why do i have problems??? I have read the man page over and over again but i can come out of it. does anyone have a manual with steps that i can use??? Thanks a lot. A.R.Winters snmp slackware 10.2 - znx - 2005-12-02 Lets confirm some stuff first.. Here you say: Quote:directory, example : /usr/share/snmp/snmpd.confThen you say: Quote:if i start snmpd on the following #snmpd /usr/share/snmpd.conf Which is different.. is this just a typo.. or are you not using the correct conf. Also the default directory for configs is /etc .. not /usr/share. Also I don't think this is the correct way to start snmpd.. you should use the initscripts, thats what they are therefore. Quote:then i get nothing strange in the snmpd.logNothing strange? do you get anything at all? Quote:but when i go back to the directory where snmpd.conf is then the file is renamed as asocket file into snmpd.conf= but the daemon is running. yeah, see the above, I don't think it started by a correct commandline.. i think it should be: Code: snmpd -c /path/to/snmpd.conf but like I said, the initscript is the better way snmp slackware 10.2 - A.R.Winters - 2005-12-04 Hi all, The problem is solved, i started snmpd like this "snmpd /path/to/snmpd.conf" but i must started like this "snmpd -c /path/to/snmpd.conf" and now it works. Thank you for the fast respond. Greetzz A.R.Winters |
