Internet / Network connection in Deep Water Linux - JohaN^^ - 2006-01-18 can someone help me with this?? i burned DWL* to a mini CD-R and took it 2 school... now i want 2 use it so i can use internet IRC etc. i would really need help! ipconfig does'nt work :S Internet / Network connection in Deep Water Linux - znx - 2006-01-18 Ok, first and foremost I'll stick a warning in, using your school network with your own distro is a defn issue. We ban users from our system that we catch. So I will tell you to get notification from the school before running your distro. That said, open up at command prompt in windows and run "ipconfig /all", this will give you the IP details that you can supply into your Linux machine, make sure to note the DNS servers and add those to resolv.conf. Now it could be that they restrict the access to network ports by MAC (we do at my work), in short you can alter the MAC with ifconfig (first google hit) but don't think that this is perfect there are methods for detection of this, hence the reason I say speak to your school prior to any of this. |
