There is a plugin in the Gaim options you have to activate.

A fellow canuck with similar tastes. Here's what mine looks like:

I moved conky to center, and I actually prefer bitlbee to gaim these days. Just plain text IM that works with all protocols and runs with any irc client. Which is nice for me since it keeps everything in my irssi window.

This is the original, @ 1600x1200. The one I have is only 1024x768 and greyscaled.
