media/file server - p_o_b - 2006-11-19 Ok, here is the setup: Macbook Pro(main pc) running osx(main os) and MCE via bootcamp (for gaming and pushing media to...) an Xbox360 all connected via 802.11g. I have an older pc that I want to turn into a file/video server for pushing video thru mce to the 360. I am completely new to linux having only played with the desktop version of ubuntu. 1. what is the best version of linux to go with? (I have tried ubuntu server and freenas so far and with ubuntu server I seemed unable to get my wifi setup though it seemed to configure properly on setup and freeNAS would not boot after install) 2. has anyone done this or anything similar? 3. I would also like to have the server box handle bittorent downloads so I don't have to leave the notebook on all the time. any and all advice is greatly appreciated. ds |
