My LCD monitor shows a double image. How do I correct this?
I usually must turn the power off the monitor and wait about 5 seconds and turn it back on for the image to go away.
With the same monitor, I get no double image under Mac OSX nor with Windows XP.
It is a Samsung SyncMaster 191N monitor and I am using the Fedora 7 distro.

Log out of your account and switch to a VT with CTRL/ALT/F6. Login as root and type system-config-display. May help. Post the contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf here if you can. Also, what video card are you using? Installed any card specific video drivers after installing Fedora?

The video card that I have is an onboard chip: Intel 828656 and I did not install any drivers after Fedora.
However, I think I buggered things up further.
Right now, I am using the live Knoppix disk and the display is perfect. So, I copied the Knoppix xorg.conf file from the ramdisk/Knoppix/etc/ directory over into my /etc/X11/ directory -- figuring that would be an easy way out but now, upon boot up, I get a box that says "Video Mode Not Supported" bouncing on the screen. Aaah!

I tried that key combination and all I got was a blank black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner. It would not accept any typing. I had to type CTRL/ALT/F5 to get back to the gui.

Are you booting Fedora only here? I assume you're using GRUB? Boot the computer. When you get the boot menu where you choose Fedora as it waits a few seconds, select Fedora and press 'e'. Select the line that looks similar to this: kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.23.1-49.fc8 ro root=LABEL=/ vga=791 and press 'e' again. You are now editing this line. Move to the end of the line, add a space and the number 3, making the line look similar to this: kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.23.1-49.fc8 ro root=LABEL=/ vga=791 3. Press enter and press 'b' to boot the system. This will boot to runlevel 3, no GUI. Login at the prompt, as root. Type system-config-display. When you are done with system-config-display reboot normally.

Yes, I am using GRUB and I followed your instructions to run sytem-config-display as root from the command line. It had me configured to be using a CRT monitor. Therefore, I selected an LCD monitor and rebooted. However, my display seems to be the same: I still get a double image.
I do not know how to interpret the xorg.conf file but one things stands out as bizarre to me:

Glad it worked. I was going to suggest a piece of paper over one side of the screen, thereby blocking one of the images. [img]<___base_url___>/uploads/emoticons/default_rolleyes.gif[/img]
Seriously, good news. Backup the working xorg.conf and then you will be able to tweak the display (if it needs it) safe in the knowledge that you can always restore the backup if things get out of hand. What resolution are you running? 1280x1024?

I second this advice to backup your working xorg.conf and store it somewhere safe, in case you have problems later you can just copy the working one in place.

No! That would not have worked because the images were superimposed and offset by about one inch -- sort of like one of those red-green 3D images.
