  red hat updates
Posted by: sneaker - 2004-02-03, 01:29 AM - Forum: How Do I? - Replies (2)

I had purchased red hat 9 back in dec of 03. I puchased a new box and told that all hardware in the box was suported by red hat 9, it was not. So i have now installed in a different box which has all of its' hardware supported by red hat .

My problem is that my 30 day basic support ran out and i can not afford to purchase a new service contract. I would like to know if there are any sites/mirrors that i can get updates for red hat 9.

Thanks!

Sneaker :)

  loss of audio in fedora
Posted by: anyweb - 2004-02-02, 09:16 AM - Forum: Fedora - Replies (2)

if you experience a sudden unexplainable loss of audio in fedora check GAIM,

it's taken me quite a while to figure out, but GAIM seems to be grabbing the audio /dev/dsp and keeping it to itself so you can't play mp3's in xmms or listen/watch a music video,

to fix, i checked my GAIM preferences and change the audio output from ESD to a simple console beep,

since i've done this, my audio has never disappeared yet (fingers crossed) and prior to doing this it would go awol on a very frequent and rather annoying frequency

see attached

cheers

  some smoothwall help needed
Posted by: anyweb - 2004-02-02, 08:09 AM - Forum: Security and Firewalls - No Replies

ok ive installed smoothwall express 2.0 and its running great

however, i now have two clients connected to it (via the dhcp server) and i want to monitor them

doing netstat -an doesnt even list the two leased ips even though they are actively connected and using the internet

tcpdump -i eth1 does list alot of activity (too much i think)

so.... I want to tail the output of tcpdump

how can i do that ?

cheers

some apps seem to try to run then die, log file?
Posted by: marlenus - 2004-01-30, 08:07 PM - Forum: How Do I? - Replies (2)

for example, i'll run freeciv or mozilla from the KDE app menu, I get the hourglass and the app appears in the system tray with the hourglass as though it's trying to load, then the process just goes away. Is there a log file somewhere I can look at to see what's going wrong? Thanks.

  KDE desktop link question
Posted by: marlenus - 2004-01-30, 03:33 PM - Forum: How Do I? - No Replies

I've installed comanche, and when I launch it from a terminal, it brings up the comanche application window and runs fine, but when I create a link on the KDE desktop to run it, something tries to run for 15 or 20 seconds and then dies. I'm a newbie at Linux, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something here. Does something special need to go into the desktop link properties to make this work? Thanks!
