On 22nd August 2007 we released Express 3.0, a new stable version of our successful and long-running network firewall.

 

Based on the Linux 2.6 kernel, this is our first stable release in some time and has a record number of new features and improvements - including advanced level reporting, single click updates, email antivirus and support for logging IM applications. Other key features include a new 'purple' wireless interface, fast and efficient routing capabilities, detailed logging of intrusion attempts, firewall attacks and web proxy access. Traffic graphs also help users to monitor and optimize their bandwidth in real time.

 

The changes have originated from the SmoothWall community and the SmoothWall project team, along with a large amount of code originally developed by SmoothWall Limited for their commercial products.

There is no doubt that SW is one of the best "firewall" distros going. The only other I think that can come close to it is IPCop. Nice screenshots, the install is simple and text based. I think all installs should be that way, graphical installers do nothing for me :)

Aye this does look nice indeed, i'm deciding to use either BSD based pfsense or this, this has a big advantage as it can handle ADSL modems, pfsense doesnt.

 

My final plan is to replace my netgear router with a box what is a firewall, router, adsl modem and wireless, this software looks up for the job.
